On October 11th, CapitalBop presents Igmar Thomas & the Cypher, featuring DJ Raydar Ellis and vocalist Chris Turner as part of Capital Bop's Traveling Loft Series.

The concert will happen in an intimate gallery space at THEARC, Ward 8′s premier music venue, located just steps from the Green Line. Opening for the Cypher will be Donvonte McCoy, an Anacostia native who’s known for his own mashup of jazz, funk, go-go and hip-hop.

As part Igmar Thomas & The Cypher's performance for CapitalBop’s Traveling Loft Series Igmar Thomas and Raydar Ellis offer a free master class for youth. Middle and high school students are especially encouraged to attend. Revive Big Band at The Apollo Theater - School Day Live!

In this interactive presentation, complete with a 15 piece big band, DJ and emcee, students will learn about the connections between jazz and hip hop, the history of classic and contemporary compositions, the difference between improvised and written music as well as live versus electronically produced music. Students will leave with exciting new connections to jazz and its relevance to their lives. Presented as part of the annual Harlem Jazz Shrines Festival and in collaboration with Community Works.

The Checkout—Live at Berklee: Revive Big Band

Berklee Alumnus Igmar Thomas returns to his alma mater leading the Revive Big Band, for a special live performance at Cafe 939. The concert can be heard live in New York on WBGO-FM as part of The Checkout—Live at Berklee series of live broadcasts. It will also be streamed live in HD video that night on NPR Music, WBGO's checkoutjazz.org, and on the websites of many NPR affiliate stations across the country. In the months to come, Revive Big Band's concert will be the subject of NPR Music's new, national radio program, Jazz Night in America, heard on more than 100 NPR affiliate stations and nprmusic.org
